Memories from the faraway montains by. Kicki Lundgren

€40.00

A compelling photographic journey that captures everyday life in Kurdish villages, revealing the unexpected parallels between distant cultures through the lens of personal history.

Memories from the Faraway Mountains is Kicki Lundgren’s sixth photo book, featuring images from her journeys through the Kurdish countryside in Turkey between 1991 and 2007. The inspiration for the book dates back to the 1980s, when Kicki met an elderly Kurdish woman who shared memories of her childhood in a small village in northern Kurdistan. Her story sparked an unexpected sense of recognition — it closely resembled the tales Kicki had heard about her own grandmother’s upbringing in a village in Västerbotten, northern Sweden. Both women had grown up as farmers, living under modest conditions, despite being separated by vast distances, languages, and cultures. Intrigued by these parallels, Kicki set out to visit several small Kurdish villages. Between 1991 and 2007, she documented village life through her camera, capturing the people and the everyday moments that define their lives.
